The Heart Behind IndiCats: A Journey of Compassion

Hello and welcome to IndiCats!
I’m so glad you’re here. I wanted to start this blog by sharing the story behind IndiCats — why I created it, what drives me, and the mission at the heart of everything I do.

The Journey Began with One Cat (…Then Another, and Another)

Eighteen years ago, I moved from the UK to India. I didn’t expect that my life would soon revolve around cats — but that’s exactly what happened. One by one, stray cats found their way to me.

Over the years, I’ve rescued 26 cats, and I still share my home with seven. They are more than pets — they are my teachers, healers, comedians, and companions

In the photo collage above are some of the sweet souls, past and present that I have had the pleasure of sharing my life in India with. Each one has a unique story of which I will share with you over time.

The Heart Behind IndiCats

IndiCats was born from a need to do more. I saw so many incredible people in India dedicating their lives to helping animals — feeding street dogs and cats, running small rescue shelters, nursing the sick and abandoned back to life — often with little or no recognition or support.

But I didn’t have the funds to donate large amounts. So, I thought: What can I do with what I have?

I started to create printable art, to raise both awareness and funds especially focusing on cats, and the wisdom we can gain from animals. IndiCats is my small way of giving back, by using creativity to shine a light on animal heroes and to support rescue work.

Why It Matters

I believe every life matters — not just the pedigreed, pampered pets, but the street cats, the one-eyed, the old, the “unadoptable.” I believe kindness is contagious. I believe creativity can be a force for change. And I believe that together, we can make a difference, one paw at a time.

Whether you’re a lifelong cat lover, a supporter of animal welfare, or just someone who believes in kindness, you’re in the right place.
Let’s raise awareness, funds, and furry tails — together. 🐱💛
